Live at the Vets/American legion

Persephone’s Dream
I was invited
to attend a concert produced by Rowen Poole and Persephone’s Dream in Springdale, PA
a small suburb of the city of Pittsburgh at the Vets/American legion (The V.F.W.)
I attended the concert with my partner Thomas Connolly and our wives Lisa & Susan.
In the past, prog4you.com has had the pleasure of interviewing the group and we have
also reviewed their last two albums.

For all accounts, we have only known this band from their studio albums and have
never seen them live. I have heard their live show is righteous and visually
stimulating. So after all, we were looking forward to seeing them live.
The concert kicked off at around seven o’clock with two other groups warming up the
crowd. They were well known around the Pittsburgh area, although not prog rock
related they seemed to have everyone entertained with their brand of music. They
were folk rock artist Cherylanne and rock/pop band of a sort of a different stripe –
The Fuzzy Comets.
At around 9:30 pm Persephone’s Dream finally hit the stage. From the onslaught they
had a take no prisoners approach to their music. The group was led by the
infectious, and heavy mix, of progressive rock guitars of Rowen Poole,
(guitars/lyrics) and Chris Siegle, (bass). While Karin Nicely captured the audiences
attention with her sultry angelic vocals and her electrifying dynamic stage
presence. Rounding off the ensemble was the dual attack drumming of Ed Waincko and
the energetic percussionist John Tallent and to give the group a touch of finesse
was the excellent keyboard playing of Kim Finney.
The band covered a host of different songs from all of their last three albums
including favorites “Euphoria”, “TV Talk Show” and “Alter Of Desire” and they
premiered a brand new killer track called “Android Dreams”. The set list is included
at the bottom of the review.
What left me impressed was the caliber of their performance and level of
professionalism. The band as a whole played very tight, not one musician
overshadowed the other. The music was exciting / stimulating and thoroughly
addictive. Their use of props and great lighting effects only added to the group’s
image and aura. But the most outstanding feature of the group was their energy and
commanding stage presence. This is what separates a bland band from one that becomes
legendary.
In closing, Persephone’s Dream delivers a great performance. The show was
wonderfully executed and brilliantly displayed. It was sensual, captivating,
enchanting and a total enjoyment of all of your senses. Don’t be left in the dark,
you have to make it a point of seeing them live.
Notes: Persephone’s Dream has produced and recorded their own albums They have three
albums to their credit and the group is currently working on new material for a new
album. Persephone’ Dream has received industry and media attention worldwide. They
have performed to eager audience at the 2001 Powermad Festival and at larger venues
throughout the Pittsburgh area and have opened for artist like D.C. Cooper (of Royal
Hunt) and Sweden’s The Flower Kings. The band is yet unsigned but is ready to take
on the world!
Thanks,
