Flower Kings: The Acoustic Set
Picture this prog fans - One of the biggest acts in progressive music playing in
your living room. Fantasy? No it was a stunning reality. On Friday, April 12, at
the Metlar Bodine house in Piscataway NJ, this show came to be. It was a special
evening with the Flower Kings playing in front of thirty lucky fans, and what an
incredible evening it was!
What was so fantastic was the fact that the band literally was in the living room,
and the audience in the dining room of this old house. What could be more intimate
than that? The band played a couple of sets of amazing Flower Kings songs, but the
best part was all the improvisation between the songs and the jams, which were
incredible to witness. What really came through was the talent and musicianship of
the Flower Kings and the buzz they get from playing together; being able to really
see and feel their own special personalities come out in front of you. Everybody
had a great time laughing and listening as the band played one great song after
another. They even played some “YES”.
The ending enticed all with a rousing version of the “Flower King”. All in all, a
relaxed great time, which of course ended to soon in a true proggers mind, but the
band, was very gracious in allowing us this special moment. Kudos to Jim Robinson
for putting it all together and to Bob Snyder of Inside Out Records for the heads up
in letting us know about the special gig.
Thanks,
