:: Review ::
There’s nothing progressive about 'Say Yeah', nor does it exhibit innovation. To
begin, the lyrics are maudlin and poor. The vocalist is desperately trying to define
a style, but it comes off affected. And the song architecture is overly formulaic.
The production is good on this CD, but it nevertheless left me flat.
That
said, I have a feeling this band could carve out its own niche if they’d work with
songwriters and lyricists and hire a producer for their next CD. I’d recommend the
vocalist not try hard to be unique, and thus in being more who he is, find naturally
what is uniquely himself. There’s a John Mellencamp quality deep inside the music
here that might be found with certain steps.
In the absence
of such deliberate efforts, I can’t recommend this band, and cannot recommend this
particular CD.
