Singularity: Color Of Space

NICE! This is the way I would describe this album by progressive rock group Singularity. If you are in any way a fan of Rush, and would like to adopt a band that sounds similar to Rush but delivers a fresh approach to the style of music, then Singularity is meant for you.

These guys Andrew Goldhawk: bass, lead vocalist Matt Zafiratos: Guitar, vocals John Green: keyboards, vocals and Jamie McGregor: drums, make up the group. They have put together a great collection of melodic and harmony filled songs that are just the types of songs that are memorable. They write the kind of music that becomes memorable fixations in your head. You’ll find yourself humming to the music even when it’s not playing. Especially “Ebb and Flow” if it weren’t such a good song I would hate it. It’s in my head and it won’t leave, but I guess that’s a good thing.

The lyrics are well written and the songs themselves are solid. The production is strong and the sound is melodic progressive rock with a dash of neo, and I use that term “neo” loosely. There are up-tempo numbers like “Ripple In Time” and “Strange Attraction” and a great instrumental “Mars Direct” it’s a smooth piece that’s very nice to listen to. Of course every prog album would not be complete without a healthy prog ballad in “Who We Are” and a great epic track in “Lenses” clocking in at 15:55 min. My favorite track off the album is the beautifully written “Ebb and Flow” and the number one track being played in my Bill Board Brain 100 song list.

So go out and support Singularity, you won’t be disappointed. This album is a musical feast for lovers of bands such as Shrodinger’s Cat, Glass Hammer, as well as fans of Mr. So & So and Rush. Don’t say I didn’t warn you if Ebb and Flow gets stuck in your head.

Additional Information
The lead singer has left the band and is no longer with the current manifestation of Singularity. In other words, he quit. There long-distance musical relationship did not work out despite the effort; the band is still great friends. It is certainly not ruled out the band will work him again in some context, but for now the group is concentrating only on the task at hand - recording the next CD.
Between Sunlight and Shadow set to be released sometime in May 2002 look for it at Fossil records
