DELIGHT : : Review : :

Progressive metal from Poland! Heavy, dense and high energy music fronted by Paulina Maślanka’s passionate vocals.

I’m reminded of Dream Theater, Symphony X, and the like. The music has a larger than life quality. One difference: Eternity is lacking in instrumental solos, which is a surprise given most prog artists penchant for showboating. Given the current unpopularity of soloing in popular music, I can understand why Delight made this choice. After a few listens, I realized I didn’t miss the soloing, so I guess their choice worked!

Standout tracks for me include track 1 ‘The Hand’, which is both heavy and catchy, and track 4, ‘Spring Day’ which just flat out rocks. Also, check track 8, 'Otherness', which has an absolutely sick chord change that will stick in your head for days.

There is a bit of ‘sameness’ to the songs on Eternity. This continuity of composition and sound helps bind the album together. Still, I would have liked some more variety in dynamic levels, synth tones, guitar tones, etc. Track 7, “The Sun” helps break up the onslaught, giving us a tender and somber ballad.

Production on Eternity is good, but not great. The mix is muddy in the low-midrange, and seems a bit distorted overall. Thankfully, the vocals are clean and clear in the mix. The drum’s sound like electronic, however they are well played. The guitar tone is pretty buzzy, but again, the guitar playing is good. These small production problems are overcome by excellent playing.

With the recent popularity of Evanesence, Delight should find a receptive US audience. I wish them the best. This is a band with a bright future.

8 out of 10 stars
