WUTHERING HIGHTS : : Pyre of Dreams : :

Persephone’s Dream has female persuasion in the vein of Blondie. Unlike most rock operas, it’s not overblown with too many roles or solos. The roster for that matter only shows twelve people, one of whom is DC Cooper, so you know this is reputable affair.

Additionally, there is balance between its many songs. It’s split into fourteen parts, but it flows with the currency of a river. In regards to the other side of the bank, the progressive elements include OSI and Fates Warning.

Just the other day I was telling a friend how I liked heavy music but that I had my limits. Most of what Slipknot does, for instance, is not for me. Then again, I’m first in line for Rammstein. This album – for the most part – demonstrates that intersecting point in the graph. The mixture of heavy-duty riffs with symphonic licks is at or near equilibrium.

By the way, there was ice is on the roads when I hit track ten. For a second I thought that I wrecked my car. Only when my increased premium flashed before my eyes did I realize that Heidi Engel’s angelic sweet voice on Android Dreams sounded a lot like Deborah Harry.

In any case, my anecdotes have only delayed the inevitable bad news…

Pyre of Dreams is good but I cannot tell a lie; it’s not better than sliced bread. It’s worthy of a checkout if your shopping cart has room. However, if your grocery list, pantry, or shoestring budget forces you to make hard and fast decisions, you might want to take a pass on this condiment since it’s not essential.

Rating 7.75 (out of 10)
