Taylor's Universe is a Danish based group led by Robin Taylor, and Certain Undiscoveries is the 6th release by Taylor's Universe since 1994, and the 22nd release in Robin Taylor's total discography since 1991.

Musically, this release will make many reviewers tear their hair out in frustration, as describing what's offered here is anything but easily done. Most songs here are made with a certain jazz-grooviness present, but added to that mix are modern electronic noises, sax and clarinet soloing that varies from subtle melodic playing to free-form jazz sounding atonal deliveries, the drums vary from simple pacesetting to rhythmical experiments, the hammond organ are used extensively in most songs and there's electric guitars added sometimes as effect and sometimes as the solid foundation for the song. And there's lots and lots of synths used as well here, to flesh out soundscapes as well as to underline melody lines.

The common denominator here are melodies though - all songs here have relatively easy accessible melody lines. Trying to place this release within the context of a known genre is hard, but I think that fusion would be the best overall description of the music on this release.

As for the individual songs, there's lots of goodies here. Describing the songs here isn't an easy thing to do though, instead I'll just recommend anyone not scared by the above description to check out the samples available at www.cdbaby.com; as they will give a much better feel for this music that whatever this poor reviewer can state in words.

The one track on the album which is most off-putting for most will probably be the last track, which is more of a sound sculpture than a song, with what indeed is a noise sculpture as well as some free-jazz elements added here and there.

Personal highlights: Nilfish, Majestæten, Ministeren og Forsvarschefen, Kelds far. All of them brilliant tracks, and among my favorite tracks from 2006.
