CALLENISH CIRCLE : : Review : :

Although the buzz around this band may seem fresh and new, they have been working hard for many years to be heard. This is their second album for Metal Blade Records, with their first release in 1999 being on DSFA Records. The album is powerful and melodic with a BIG dual guitar sound. These tracks are totally based upon the guitar grooves and hooks that Tyssen and Dieteren emit. There is plenty of head banging to be had here for sure. The production is flawless with all the musicians sharing the same sound space quite well, giving and taking from one another effortlessly. Even with the guitar driven sound of the album, the bass, drums, and vocals all have equal space and balance out well. Savelkoul’s vocals are of the scratchy type throughout his singing, screaming, and growling. He has plenty of energy and flows well with the music.

Callenish Circle

Essentially the band reminds me of Dark Tranquility and In Flames, with a twist of Cradle of Filth added in for a bit of evil. This is a good album. The band is strong and should build upon the momentum they have created equating to more success in the future. Is it a great album? No. They do have some sense of style they can call their own, but its not showing enough to make them unique. They can easily be clumped in with other bands in the same vein. Should you check them out? Yes. Just don’t expect anything earth shattering.

7 out of 10.
