WUTHERING HIGHTS
: : Enter Alone : :

Confusion is a jazz-rock-fusion three piece outfit that on this, their third release, has given us a strong instrumental CD that refuses to be clearly defined by any one of its musical “styles”.

There is of course the obvious jazz and fusion elements similar to John MacLaughlin or even Beer for Dolphins. Tight intricate guitar work interspersed with a strong back beat and rhythm section. Then you add the “rock” part and a sound similar to OSI can be felt and heard.

This is mostly melodic rock that is neither full on in any direction. Achilleas’s tasteful guitar work never comes across as having “too many notes” and is always full of richness and body like a fine French Chardonnay.

Nothing in this music sets it apart from the many other bands playing in this style of music but there is also nothing in these songs that makes you say “Heard it all before and I’m bored to tears”.

All in all good music and the one vocal song “Enter Alone” with yet another wonderful female voice really does place this entire CD just a notch or two above all others in this style of music.

Are you going to hear guitar riffing like nothing you’ve heard before? Nope. But you will hear tastefully written, produced and performed jazz fusion with a rock tilt that should be very pleasing to everyone’s ear.
