The album is much, much better than their previous release. This is an outstanding
effort with some fantastic songwriting. These musicians can play. In the past
release, the production was a little shaky. The songwriting was a little disjointed.
They seem to have worked out all the kinks in this release. This is easily their
best effort and a great disc. The guitar riffs and solos are spicy and hot. The bass
playing hits the target squarely inside the bullseye. This creation brings the band
to a whole new level.
There are many other highlights in the album. The opening, A Touch of Blessing, is
an attention getter that slowly builds. It eventually works up the nerve to get in
the face of a bully. With a scowl and a guard held high, the antagonist is left
hightailing with a black eye. The operatic harmony by the female background vocalist
is a great touch and offers spiritual inspiration. The orchestral pieces in Faith
Restored are well written and the monologue over the piano in When the Walls Fall
Down is very effective. The end of the album spirals to the top of a staircase where
it glides off into oblivion. Everything works together in a rigid construction that
is solid as concrete.

If you liked Recreation Day, this one will
surely be something of interest. If you found flaws in that release, their process
has been tweaked to such a degree that the end product is a whole different kind of
quality. This is recommended material to any progressive metal fan. If you liked
Poverty’s No Crime or Magnitude 9 then give this a go. Before passing judgment on Evergrey, skip ahead to this album and hear how heavy progressive metal is meant to
sound.
