WUTHERING HIGHTS IV Luna are a prog metal band from Italy. This is their new EP entitled Anteroom. I found this band difficult to review mainly because I am not familiar with the prog metal scene in Italy. I really have no other band to compare them to which may be a good thing since I cannot accuse them of ripping off other artists.

I found this album quite a bit more interesting than another IV Luna album D’incanto. The first song “Mild September” is very good. The vocals on this track range from the intensity of black metal to very melodic and subdued. One minor gripe is that I had a hard time understanding the vocalist. It is sometimes hard to tell if he is singing in English or Italian. I assume the vocals are in English because of the English song titles, however, it is a good start to the cd.

The second song, “Realize” starts off with a fierce heavy guitar riff that continues throughout the song. There are some nice tempo changes in this song where they slow things down a bit. which adds a nice flavour to the song. The first time I heard this song I did not think it was anything special but after listening to it a few times, it is starting to grow on me.

“La tua voce”, the third song has some nice melodic guitar running along its entire length. It is not a great track but it is a step up from their previous work. The chorus has some nice soaring vocals (in Italian, of course) but nonetheless they are quite effective. A decent little song.

The last song entitled “Red Room” is probably the hardest song on the album. It is a heavy metal number but fairly melodic which is fine by me. There is also some nice percussion work from Alex Guiliani. Make no mistake, this is still a very guitar orientated album but it is somewhat more musical than their previous stuff. I would really like to see the band add keys on their next release as I believe it would add to the music, especially the slower numbers. On the back of my promo copy it notes the new album will be released soon. Hopefully the band will continue in this direction.
