AARON ENGLISH

: : REVIEW : :

In this case, forget the word prog for this release! Here is another CD from Progrock Records, but this one isn’t a progressive rock album,  it’s in the world music genre. This fact, can be considered very strange because the label by Shawn Gordon has in its catalogue only prog albums. In fact Aaron English is, perhaps, the only artist  who doesn’t play prog among the Progrock label, but world music.

Aaron English

Helped by many musicians, Aaron English immediately shows what schemes he will follow: great importance for the melodies, frequent basis of percussion and the use of the piano as the main instrument. Plus a lot of particular instruments I never heard about before now. He has also a warm and particular voice that gives a personal approach to this kind of music, although sometimes it reminded me of Peter Gabriel, like the music from time to time. It is clear that all the work is influenced by Gabriel ‘s music, but there isn’t so much programming on it or any kind of computer, which the English singer puts in his records everytime.

Moreover, the music is more melodic and catchier than Gabriel’s one. So we don’t have to think that we are in the presence of a new clone, but of a new interesting American reality that has signed a contract for a little while. That’s incredible! I suggest it to every fan of the world.

Music. Recommended.
