Blushing Well is a white metal band based in Pennsylvania USA, and "This
Flesh I'm In" is their second release. I haven't been able to track down
detailed information on this release (I was sent a digital copy), but as
far as I can tell this is an independent release.
Musically they play a dark, heavy, slow-to midpaced riff-based type of
hard rock, with a distinct sludgy feel to it. Spicing up the songs are
melodic overlays from guitars and synths, and for variation some tracks
are more purely melodic based as well. In some tracks you'll find
elements from alternative metal, also used to create a more diverse
soundscape.
As for musical influences, I'd name Black Sabbath and King's X as
probable main influences on the sound here, as most tracks to a greater
or lesser degree sound like a mix of these two bands specific styles;
with the sludgy riffs from early Sabbath and the more melodic and
slightly psychedelic touches as well as the vocal style of King's X
being common denominators in most songs.

As for the songs on this release; I feel they are a slightly weak lot.
What sounds like a very sludgy mix and production do hide away many
details - especially the keyboards often seem to drown - but there are
other aspects I find lacking as well. Most songs tend to get too
monotone and repetitive; lots of sludgy sounds without clear cut melody
or mood to be found. The vocalist has an ok voice and manages to lift
quite a few of the tracks up to an ok level, but even then the songs
really fail to engage me from a musical point of view, being nice to
listen to but not being standout tracks.
The ballads also lack the element that makes me take an interest; being
nice enough songs but no more.
There are elements on this release that hopefully is a promise of better
things to come. But for now; I suspect this band is much better live
than on record; as the musical style here really should make an impact
in such settings.
Standout track: Old Men Need to Sing - a humorous spoof on old men,
ending in a very alternative take of the opening track of the album.
