WUTHERING HIGHTS
: : Nattfodd : :

Ok, picture a bunch of human infants being raised from birth by Hobbits. The humans grow up, learn to play music, form a band, and begin to rock all the parties of the ancient world.

At Finntroll’s wooded bash they brew finely aged wicked ale, and I’m sure they drink a few as well. With Nattfodd they succeed in merging together the atmosphere of Dimmu Borgir (minus the deep seeded evil), some Children Of Bodom-ish melody, healthy globs of pagan and black metal rhythms, with traditional Finnish polka, or “humppa” style music. It’s a cold Norwegian block of ice, broken into cubes of different sizes and shapes (or styles of music, stay with me here) to keep the merrymaking nice and chilled.

Now if that ain’t unique I don’t know what is. We get a head bobbing, fist thrusting, good ole’ black metal knee slapping hoot right out of the Lord of the Rings. If Tolkien had heavy metal music in his Hobbit or Dwarf watering holes or inns, Finntroll would be the house band. To further enhance the feel, there are chants and growls, owls and birds, and gurgling water sounds. Speaking of water, the album flows smoothly, production wise they pull it all together nicely, and one of the best things is actually the length of the album. It’s just long enough to keep you going without making you wonder why the hell your still listening to dark, Finnish metal polka music that isn’t even sung in English. No matter, you get the message.

 Finntroll

You will definitely find yourself smiling, banging your head, and tapping your feet. Hell you might even get up and dance around the room if you are feeling crazy!! Don’t worry, I wont tell anybody. It’s a wickedly fun evil polka party at your long deceased great, great, great grandmothers farm with a dark cabin way back in the woods. Does life get any better than that? Look out for the video of “Trollhammaren” on a cave wall near you.

Good for a few spins and a few more parties. Rah-Rah!!
