Curtains :: Crucible

We were privileged to watch Crucible live at Nearfest in 1999; at that time we never heard of the band and knew nothing of them. When Crucible hit the stage, we were treated to a great performance. We were left wondering if Crucible could ever top their last album “Tall Tales” which in our belief was an awesome album.

Crucible returns with their line up intact and with their best work to date. Six vibrant new songs including a remake of Crack The Sky’s Nuclear Apathy that is bound to bring back some memories. The remake is such a nice surprise to hear, it just blows you away, as good as the original if not better. What is very impressive on this album is the underrated vocals of Bill Esposito. The tonal quality and range of his voice is what makes the sound of Crucible distinctive from other bands. Like Geddy Lee was to Rush and Fish was to Marillion; Bill Esposito is to Crucible. This is a group that chemistry plays an important role in. The technically flawless bass playing of Chris Vescera and the tight guitar work of Dan Esposito bring Crucible to another level, a dimension where finely tuned bands belong. But it’s the keyboards of Tim Horan that give Crucible it’s refining sound. Embellishing the old yet worthy sounds of the Hammond organ bringing you a sound that is definitely recognizable as Crucible. Rounding off the band is the superb technical virtuosity of Crucibles drummer Tony Cappellina.
Crucible has put together some fine melodies and arrangements that will please their fans. Others will love this album and will not be disappointed.
