DFA :: Work In Progress Live

This new CD from DFA on
Moonjune Records is actually a pleasure to review-It was early afternoon on June 17th, 2000 when DFA took the stage at Zoellinger Arts Center in Bethlehem, PA. The International accredited North East Art Rock Festival (Nearfest) gave host to the first ever-live performance in the USA. What makes this CD more special is the Prog4you gang was there to view the concert. We were treated to something very special.

So it came as no surprise to us when we received the CD. We could not wait to review it. First of all, it is a pleasure to hear such a high quality recording job done live by
Mike Potter of Orion Studios Mobile, at the Center during Nearfest 2000. The CD was then mixed and remastered by Giampaolo Righetti at Tobacco Road Studio, “ Villa Fontana” Italy-in April, May of 2001.

Again we never heard of DFA or had any knowledge whom they were.We can only say that we thank the folks over at Nearfest for bringing us good quality musicians, and they delivered on DFA. The quartet is made up of Silvio Minella on Guitars, Luca Baldassari on electric bass, Alberto De Grandis on drums, vocals, and Alberto Bonomi on keyboards and vocals.

The band was ready for it’s first serving of an American audience with a good ear for music. This is a well-balanced and mostly instrumental album with a few songs that have vocals. The music is well structured and complex at times. The band was able to tune everyone in the audience not by their stage presence but by the atmospheric rhythms and the music that had the people dancing in their seats. The talented musicians worked off each other and they were simply flawless. The audience fed off that atmospheric progressive stream and showered the band with it’s own appreciation by applauding time after time louder and louder. The band simply connected with the audience.
For fans that were at Nearfest this is definitely a collectors piece. For people that have never heard of DFA go hear what you’ve been missing. This is a great CD

Rating nine out of ten keyboards
