:: Review ::
When you think of progressive music, do you think in a way that limits what prog is? Or are you like my fellow mates at Prog4you
who believe progressive music is many things to many people? Bar Torque is the new
release from duet Elton Dean and Mark Hewins. Actually, it was taken out of the jazz vault to find new life. The CD was recorded live at their
performance at the London Jazz Café November of 1992. The CD was remixed
and remastered by Mark Hewins at the Musart studio, London England in November 2000.
This music is a combination of many attributes, thus making it difficult to put
a label on.
The music is spontaneous and improvisational jazz, done by two of the best musicians in the business.
The CD is a joy to listen to. The soundscapes created by the two artists are incredible to hear.
The CD consists of 3 tracks the shortest being 13 min long. The guitar playing techniques of Mark Hewins are
a treat for the ears. Truly groundbreaking work with what he calls harmonic guitar, and the use of advanced midi technology. Elton Dean,
of
course, is a legend in British jazz with his work in Soft Machine and many others. His instrument of choice is the Saxello and the Alto
Sax. The two artists give a fantastic performance being simply flawless. Overall, this is a good album to have for posterity.
Prog4you gives this album 8 out of 10 keyboards.
